Study: Covid is still more deadly than influenza

A new study revealed that “Covid-19” is still more deadly than influenza, despite the belief that Corona is no longer a dangerous virus.

A team of doctors at the Virginia Health Care System in St. Louis, Missouri, found that Covid patients hospitalized last year were 35% more likely to die than those hospitalized with seasonal influenza.

Meanwhile, the team, which used the US Department of Veterans Affairs' electronic health databases, acknowledged that rates of serious illness, hospitalizations and deaths from Covid have declined significantly since the first year of the pandemic, when Covid was five times more deadly than... flu.

The data included patients with Covid or seasonal influenza between October 1, 2023 and March 27, 2024.

The study showed that the number of hospital admissions due to “Covid” doubled compared to influenza between 2023 and 2024.

The death rate among those infected with Covid reached 5.7% 30 days after hospitalization, compared to those infected with influenza, whose death rate reached 4.24%.

Covid can cause different complications than the flu, such as blood clots and long Covid.

New variants of the Covid virus have continued to emerge, including JN.1, the main variant in the United States since the end of December 2023.

Last month, the CDC detected the KP.1.1 and KP.2 variants in wastewater samples.

The study was published in JAMA.
