Six people were killed in a shooting, including a candidate for mayor of a city in southern Mexico

Six people were killed and two others were injured in a shooting incident at an election rally in the municipality of Concordia, in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas.

The Chiapas State Attorney's Office page on a social networking site stated in a statement that public prosecutors are investigating the incident, in which "six people were killed; three women, one of whom is a minor, and three men, in addition to two people being injured by gunshots following a clash that occurred between civilians." Armed men during the election campaign in which the candidate for mayor of Concordia from the People's Party of Chiapas, Lucero Lopez Massa, participated.

Local media reported that candidate Lopez Massa was among the victims of the shooting.

The candidate's family had already been subjected to criminal attacks several weeks ago, as her father's farm was attacked by bandits who burned equipment there and shot several workers.
