Russian specialists develop a surgical tool to perform thyroid surgery in record time

Specialists from Sechenov State Medical University in Moscow have developed a surgical tool for opening channels under the skin, which can reduce the duration of thyroid surgeries by more than 50%.

The press service of the “National Technology Initiative” platform said that the new technology lies in opening channels under the skin and muscles so that an endoscope and tools can pass through them, through which the surgeon can perform the necessary operations. This technique will allow to minimize soft tissue injury.

The doctor participating in the project, Ivan Lychagin, explained: “The new technology also aims to popularize and introduce low-traumatic operations into clinical practice.”

The project owners have produced an unparalleled gadget using 3D printing technologies. One of its advantages is its shape, which prevents tissue damage.

A source at Sechenov Medical University explained, “Thanks to this technical solution, it will be possible to reduce the duration of the surgical operation to a large extent, that is, by at least 50%.”

As project participant Maxime Saliba said: “We plan to obtain a patent for this medical product and expect that the new device will be in demand in endoscopic video surgery.”

It is noteworthy that the project owners participated in the federal program “University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform.”
