Scientists at the Russian National University of Perm have developed a system based on neural networks that predicts the risks of companies falling under sanctions.

The university's press service said: "In recent years, Western countries have been practicing a policy of sanctions against many countries, including Russia. Large banks and companies in the mining and industrial sectors, as well as businessmen and politicians, have been placed under sanctions. The Russian government is not required to take measures." Not only rapid response to economic regulation, but also long-term forecasting and analysis of potential developments. Scientists at Perm University have developed an intelligent system based on a neural network that predicts, based on various economic factors specific to each company in the Russian market, the risks of being included on sanctions lists.

To train the neural network, scientists involved in the project used databases of Russian companies, including institutions that have been subject to sanctions. Scientists explained that the system was designed in a way to avoid errors as much as possible.

“We were able to obtain results whose accuracy reached 90%, which is a fairly high indicator,” said Daria Vladimirovna, assistant professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics at Perm University.

The university's press service explained that the technological solution can be used "as an additional tool in developing financial plans and making strategic decisions." The project was implemented within the framework of the “Priority 2030” strategic academic leadership programme.
