The Spanish club, Real Madrid, retained the top spot as the most expensive football clubs in the world, for the third year in a row, according to Forbes, the American magazine specializing in economics, of the most expensive clubs for the year 2024.
The evaluation is carried out according to several factors, most notably the clubs’ income, sponsorship contracts and assets owned by them.
Real Madrid tops the list with a value of $6.6 billion, an increase of 9% over last year.
The Royal Club is also considered the most profitable team ($873 million) thanks to it receiving $205 million annually from its shirt sponsors, which is the highest figure in football according to the “Football Benchmark.”
Real Madrid has also won 5 out of the last 10 Champions League titles, and is seeking to win the sixth title on June 1, 2024, when it faces German Borussia Dortmund, at Wembley Stadium in the British capital, London.
Manchester United of England comes in second place, after British businessman Jim Ratcliffe bought 27.7% of the club's shares last February, making it only $50 million away from Real Madrid.
Barcelona, Spain, ranks third with a value of $5.6 billion, an increase of 2%, and a difference of $100 million from the Royal Club, as it receives $189 million annually from its shirt sponsors.
In addition to Manchester United, 5 clubs from the English Premier League reserved their positions among the top 10 clubs, after the Premier League signed, in December 2023, a new local television agreement for the seasons from (2025-2026) to (2028-2029).
Under this agreement, Premier League clubs will receive more than double the domestic broadcast revenues of any other football league, and about double La Liga, if international broadcast agreements are included.
