Yangon, Yangon residents told RFA today that on May 16, military council troops arrested ten young pedestrians in Mayangone Township and Hlaing Township.
Those arrested are men between the ages of 20 and 30, whose names and details are unknown.
On the evening of May 16th, three young pedestrians in Hlaing Township met at about eight o'clock in the night in Maungone Township. A Yangon resident, who did not want to be named, told RFA that seven young people were arrested at the bus stop at the intersection.
"They were dragged into the patrol cars. It is not known where they were arrested. It seems that Porter was being dragged for military service. At the intersection of history, there were also young girls, but only a boy was dragged."
It is also said that youths arrested in Yangon are being picked up by the military council by paying from 10,000 to 30,000,000 kyats.
RFA has not been able to independently confirm the locals' statements.
RFA reached out to the Military Council's spokesperson for Yangon Region, Chief Legal Officer U Hla Thein, by phone to get a response to these arrests, but he did not receive an answer.
According to the Association for the Assistance of Political Prisoners (AAPP) on May 17, 26,695 civilians have been arrested throughout the country during the more than three years of the coup.
