Nepal did mischief on new 100 rupee note! Why is India angry?

Nepal's new Rs 100 note has been approved by its cabinet. A new map of Nepal is printed on this note. In this, Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipulekh have been shown as part of Nepal, whereas India has been claiming them as its part.

New Delhi:Amid the ongoing controversy over the new map on Nepal's Rs 100 note, President Ram Chandra Poudel's economic advisor Chiranjeevi Nepal has resigned. Rashtrapati Bhavan has accepted his resignation. He had criticized the decision to print the new map of Nepal on the notes. He had termed this decision as not wise. What did Nepal say on the new note?

Chiranjeevi Nepal is also the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nepal. He said that it was an unwise move to include Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani under Indian control. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had talked to President Ramchandra Paudel on his statement. Many intellectuals of the country had demanded Nepal's removal from his post.

Nepal's decision to put a new map of the country on the new 100 rupee note was made public on May 4. After this, Nepal had said, "I, as the former Governor of Rashtra Bank, oppose this step of the government, not the President. As a consultant." He had said, "It is one thing that Nepal has a dispute with India over some parts of the territory, but printing a map on the currency which is different from the map recognized by international bodies including the two neighbors is foolish."

How is the new map of Nepal?

The Parliament of Nepal had approved the new political map of the country in June 2020 through a constitutional amendment proposal. In the new political map of Nepal, Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipulekh have been shown in the border of Nepal. Since then, new political maps have been included in the government papers and seals. The map is being used. 

Whereas India claims Lipinyadhura, Kalapani and Lipulekh as its part. Nepal has been claiming its rights on these three areas.

On the question of printing a new map on the new notes, the Nepal government said that there is nothing new in this decision. The government had called it a regular process. Nepal said that its old Rs 100 notes were about to expire. The old note had an old map. Nepal's cabinet approved the new design of Rs 100 on April 25 and May 2. 

What is India's objection to Nepal's new note?

India had objected to this decision of the Nepal government. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had said that Nepal's unilateral decision to include the map of the disputed area between the two countries in the new notes will not have any impact on the actual situation. Our position is very clear. We are talking about our limitations from an established platform, but in the meantime, the unilateral decision they took cannot change the situation between us or the reality of that place.

Nepal had said that the Constitution of Nepal applies only within the country. But Nepali rupee notes also circulate in the border areas with the neighboring country India. He had expressed apprehension that if new Nepali notes of Rs 100 come into the market, then They should not work on the border with India.

Indian notes of less than Rs 500 are recognized in Nepal, but India has not recognized Nepali notes.
