NASA President Bill Nelson announced that the agency's experts hope that the experimental American X-59 hypersonic plane will fly at the end of this year 2024.

Therefore, NASA expects that testing the new aircraft in the future will allow lifting the ban on supersonic commercial aircraft flights, which has been in place in the United States and a number of other countries for 50 years.
According to the designers of the X-59, it is not a prototype, but rather an experimental aircraft, the use of which will allow collecting data for the development of future generations of supersonic passenger aircraft.
