Diplomatic sources reported on Wednesday that the United Arab Emirates is under pressure from the United States, Britain and the European Union regarding trade with Russia.
Reuters reported, citing sources, that representatives of the United States, Britain and the European Union visited the United Arab Emirates last week in order to prevent the entry of sanctioned goods into Russia.
The sources said that the officials asked the UAE to provide detailed information about the export and re-export of dual-use goods to Russia.
In response to a request from Reuters to comment on this news, an Emirati spokesman did not specify whether the talks had taken place. However, he said a ban had been imposed on some dual-use items.
Last December, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at the beginning of talks with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, that the United Arab Emirates is Russia's largest partner in the Arab world.
Putin pointed out that relations between Russia and the United Arab Emirates have reached a high and unprecedented level, and this is due to the active role played by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, stressing that the United Arab Emirates is Russia’s largest trading partner in the Arab world, while it participates in investments. And major projects in the oil and gas sectors.
The United Arab Emirates had received an invitation to join the BRICS group, and the decision to join entered into force on January 1, 2024, as this issue is also among the issues that will be presented on the agenda of the discussions between the two presidents.
President Putin praised the climate summit currently taking place in the United Arab Emirates, and said that it is the summit that will witness the first results of the Paris Summit. He stressed that the management of the summit is being conducted at the highest level, and he wished the UAE success in that.
