Leclerc wins pole at the Monaco GP, Verstappen starts sixth

Jakarta - Ferrari racer Charles Lecrerc continued his brilliant performance when he was the fastest in the second and third practice by winning pole position in the eighth Formula 1 (F1) series of the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix (GP) at the Monaco Circuit after recording a time of 1 minute 10.270 seconds in qualifying, Saturday.

Lecrerc's pole position makes him the racer who has won three poles in the last four editions of Monaco after the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

“The feeling after the qualifying lap is always very special here. I'm really excited about this round, the excitement is very high. "It feels very good," said Lecrerc after the end of qualifying.

Even though he got pole, the 26 year old racer said "qualifying is not everything" because his main target is aiming for his first win in the main race which will be played tomorrow Sunday (26/5) at 20.00 WIB.

At the circuit in his birthplace of Monte Carlo, in previous seasons he only achieved the highest position in P4

"Even though this is very helpful for Sunday's race, we have to prepare everything by Sunday. "In the last few years we haven't managed to do that," he said.

Meanwhile, in second place is McLaren driver Oscar Piastri, followed by his teammate Carlos Sainz in third.

Piastri's partner, Lando Norris, who won the race in Miami, will start the Monaco GP in fourth position. and Mercedes driver George Russell started the race in fifth position.

Three-time world champion Max Verstappen, who was knocked out in P11 in first practice, will start the race in sixth position. was impressive in the first two practices but still couldn't do much by starting the race in seventh,

ninth and tenth positions occupied by RB Honda RBPT racer Yuki Tsunoda, Williams racer Alexander Albon and Alpine Renault racer Pierre Gasly

Monaco will be played on Sunday (26/5) at 20.00 WIB
