Kazakhstan's Ministry of Digital Development announced that Beijing and Astana have agreed to expand cooperation in the field of space research.
A statement issued by the ministry said: “Within the framework of the first meeting of the Subcommittee on Innovative Cooperation between the two countries, which was held in Astana, Kazakhstan and China agreed to expand cooperation in the field of space research.”
The statement added: “The subcommittee decided to expand cooperation in implementing joint scientific and innovative projects in the field of space research and the use of small satellites, and the First Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Space Industry of Kazakhstan discussed with the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China a number of key issues aimed at “To develop cooperation between the two countries in several fields, including the areas of developing 5G networks, aviation and space industries.”
According to the Ministry, during the meeting the possibility of establishing joint research centers was also discussed, in addition to financing some innovative research projects in the field of the aviation industry and e-commerce.
Last year, a space industry development project for the period between 2023 and 2029 was approved in Kazakhstan, which seeks to establish a self-sufficient space industry in the country.
