Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron invited President Mahmoud Abbas to carry out vital reforms in the Palestinian Authority, to enhance the possibility of “recognition of the Palestinian state.”
According to the Elysee statement, Macron expressed in a telephone call with Abbas his condolences to the Palestinian people over the Israeli bombing of the displaced persons’ camp in the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip.
The French President affirmed his country's commitment to work with its partners in the UN Security Council to ensure a ceasefire.
Macron called on the Palestinian President to carry out “necessary reforms” in preparation for the recognition of a Palestinian state capable of fulfilling its responsibilities for the benefit of the Palestinians, including the Gaza Strip.
On Tuesday, Spain, Norway and Ireland announced their official recognition of the State of Palestine, bringing the number of countries recognizing it to 147 out of 193 countries in the United Nations General Assembly.
The Israeli war on Gaza since October 7 has left more than 117,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly.
Israel continues the war on Gaza despite orders from the International Court of Justice to immediately stop the ground attack on the city of Rafah (south), and to take temporary measures to prevent acts of “genocide” and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Strip.
