The Turkish Defense Industries Authority announced on Friday that Baykar Drone Technologies has completed the delivery of 24 Bayraktar TB2 drones to Poland. Thus, Poland will be the first member country of NATO and the European Union to receive Turkish-made drones.
A statement issued by the Turkish Presidency Authority said that the delivery came within the framework of a deal concluded between Baykar and the Polish Ministry of Defense during May 2021.
According to the statement, Baykar delivered the first batch of Bayraktar drones to Poland in October 2022, the second in April 2023, and the third in October of last year.
This May, the company completed the fourth and final installment of the deal at a military base in Poland.
The handover was attended by Chairman of the Turkish Defense Industries Authority Haluk Gurgun, Polish Deputy Minister of Defense Pawel Pejda, Director General of Baykar Haluk Bayraktar, and a delegation from Polish Defense.
Gurgun said, according to the authority’s statement, that Turkey is one of the three most prominent countries that manufacture drones around the world, making it a global player in the field of drones.
He added, "Baykar is closely followed around the world with its young talents, game-changing power, superior pioneering technologies and export successes, and is a national pride for our country."
For his part, Khaluk Bayrakdar indicated in a post on the “X” platform that with the completion of the aforementioned deal with Poland, Turkey will have exported drones, for the first time, to a country that is a member of both NATO and the European Union.
He added that this "historic deal" will strengthen strategic cooperation between Türkiye and Poland in the field of technology partnership.
