Dr. Daria Rusakova, a Russian nutrition expert, announced that a strong desire to eat sweets could be a harbinger of serious diseases.
The expert pointed out in an interview with the newspaper "Vechernaya Moskva" that the constant desire to eat sweets primarily indicates the development of type 2 diabetes.
She says: “In the case of prediabetes and diabetes, the level of insulin in the blood rises, and you notice dangerous jumps in the glucose level - from a very low level to a very high level. This makes the person feel dizzy, weak, and nauseous, and the desire to eat sweets appears until he returns to his stable state.” .
In addition, cravings for sugar-containing foods indicate an unstable emotional and psychological state of a person and a depressive mood.
She says: “In the vast majority of cases, when a person feels stressed for a long time, he tries to compensate for this state with good things. Because it is common for a person to be rewarded with sweets since childhood, which also constitutes a false addiction. Therefore, the adult unconsciously searches for sweets.” .
The expert confirms that sometimes, the desire to eat sweets arises when there is a lack of mineral elements in the body, and of the vitamin B group. People who suffer from overweight and obesity also tend to eat sweets.
According to the expert, adding sugar to food is only to enhance its taste, because it is pure carbohydrates that have no nutritional value. Therefore, it can be replaced with natural carbohydrates - vegetables and fruits.
