Ghana: 5 foreign companies apply for the nuclear power plant
-
Ghana will choose a company to build its first nuclear power plant by December.

Among the candidates, the French company EDF as well as American, Chinese, South Korean and Russian companies

According to Robert Sogbadji, deputy director of the Ministry of Energy in charge of nuclear and alternative energies, this contract should extend over the next decade.

Ghana began considering building a nuclear power plant in the 1960s, but the process was halted by a coup.

The project was restarted in 2006 with help from the International Atomic Energy Association, following a devastating power crisis that year.
