Germany : An investigation opened into the appearance of people wearing Nazi uniforms on the streets of Hoyerswerda

German police announced on Saturday that they had opened an investigation into the possibility that a group of people wearing Nazi military uniforms appeared on Thursday on the roads of Hoyerswerda in the east of the country.

According to the police, the group is scheduled to pass vehicles replicating Third Reich army vehicles on the roads of Hoyerswerda.

A police spokesman in Gorlitz (eastern Germany) said: “An appeal has been made to summon witnesses.”

On Thursday afternoon, an eyewitness informed the police that “there was a convoy of vehicles similar to Nazi vehicles on its way to Hoyerswerda, and several people in one of the trucks were wearing symbols prohibited by the German constitution,” according to the police.

The same source added that a police car stopped a truck hours later, but "none of its passengers was wearing prohibited symbols at that moment."

The German newspaper Bild published pictures of people in Nazi uniforms near the Hoerswerda in the Biergarten, an open-air site where beer is drunk.

The newspaper quoted an eyewitness as saying that he saw "around 14:00 a group arriving at the site. Most of them were men with a number of women and young people as well. Some of them removed the Nazi symbols and others then placed them clearly."
