On Saturday, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili vetoed the "foreign influence" law, which sparked a large wave of protests in the country.

“I vetoed the ‘Foreign Influence’ law, which contradicts our Constitution along with the fact that its essence is Russian,” Zurabishvili said in a televised speech.

Critics of the new law adopted by the Georgian parliament at the end of last week considered that it aims to divert Georgia's course from Europe and direct it towards Russia.

The Georgian Parliament adopted in a plenary session yesterday the draft law on foreign agents by a majority of votes in the third and final reading.

Georgia has been witnessing widespread protests against the document for some time. The protests escalated several times to the point of clashes with security forces, and special forces used pepper gas and water cannons to disperse the demonstrators.
