Today, Saturday, Israeli War Council Minister Benny Gantz threatened to withdraw from the government, giving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu until June 8 to formulate a clear and comprehensive plan to win the war.
Gantz said in a press conference that a clear and comprehensive plan must be developed to “win the war,” which includes “undermining the rule of the Hamas movement and returning the prisoners detained in the Gaza Strip.”
He called for making "decisive decisions," addressing Netanyahu: "If you are ready to do what is necessary by preferring the national path to the personal, we will walk together, and if you prefer the personal path, we will leave the government."
He called for strategic change and the development of an alternative national plan, "not a waste of time."
Gantz continued: “Neither Hamas nor Abbas (referring to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas) is in the Gaza Strip. I support the establishment of an Arab-American-Palestinian administration for the Gaza Strip, with Israeli security control.”
Minister Gantz pointed out that “fundamental decisions have not been taken by the government,” noting that “a minority took control of driving the Israeli ship toward the rocks, and a portion of those who sent them to war are dealing with cowardice and irresponsibility.”
He continued: "Things have become managed for political and personal reasons. We will not win the war except when there are strategic goals."
On the other hand, the Israeli Prime Minister expressed his rejection of Gantz’s statements, noting that the latter “issuing a final ultimatum to him instead of Hamas.”
Netanyahu said in a statement issued by his office: “The conditions set by Benny Gantz are washed-up words and their meaning is clear: the end of the war, the defeat of Israel, the release of most of the prisoners, leaving Hamas intact, and the establishment of a Palestinian state.”
