Four people, including three foreigners, were killed in a shooting in Bamyan, central Afghanistan

The Afghan Interior Ministry announced the killing of three foreigners and an Afghan on Friday in a shooting in Bamyan province in central Afghanistan.

Interior Minister spokesman Abdul-Mateen Qaani said: An Afghan and three foreigners were killed, and four foreigners and three Afghans were wounded in a shooting in the city of Bamyan, the capital of the province of the same name.

He pointed out that the security forces arrested four suspects, without specifying whether more than one person had opened fire on civilians.

It was not clear whether the dead foreigners were tourists.

Bamyan, where the Taliban blew up Buddha statues in front of our eyes in 2001, is the number one tourist destination in Afghanistan.

A local resident said: I heard a series of gunshots, adding: The security forces immediately cordoned off the streets leading to the shooting site.

Bloody attacks against foreigners have been rare in Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power in mid-August 2021.

Qaani added: The Islamic Emirate strongly condemns this crime, expresses its deep regret and condolences to the families of the victims, and confirms that it will find all the criminals and punish them.
