The United States plans to develop a new generation of means to protect satellites from possible attacks and disable enemy spacecraft.

The New York Times, citing Pentagon employees, said that it seeks to purchase a new generation of ground-based and space-based means that would allow protecting the satellite network from attacks and disabling enemy spacecraft.

It is noteworthy that Russia had previously used its veto power in the UN Security Council and obstructed the adoption of a draft resolution prepared by the United States and Japan regarding the non-deployment of nuclear weapons in outer space. 13 out of 15 countries in the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution, and China abstained from voting.

At that time, Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said in a speech before the vote that the document proposed by the United States aimed to deepen the division among members of the UN Security Council. Russia and China proposed amendments to the draft resolution that would provide for measures to prevent an arms race in outer space and prevent the deployment of all types of weapons in space, but the Security Council rejected it.
