During the opening ceremony of hydroelectric complexes on the Araz River, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said that Iranian-Azerbaijani friendship is an important factor for stability in the South Caucasus region.

Aliyev added in a speech he delivered during the complex’s operation ceremony attended by Iranian President Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi: “Iranian-Azerbaijani friendship and brotherhood is an important factor in stability and strengthening security measures in the region in the future. “Here we plan to build two hydropower plants with a capacity of 280 MW,” he said. “Equal sharing of energy capacity will also bring additional benefits to both countries - Azerbaijan and Iran. There is no doubt that the opening of the Gez Galasi hydropower complex and the commissioning of the Khodavrin hydropower complex is a historical event.”
