A UN official condemned the Israeli challenge to the warnings of the international community and the decisions of the International Court of Justice regarding the attack on Rafah, calling for sanctions to be imposed on Israel.

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Palestine, Francesca Albanese, said in a blog post on the

Yesterday, Friday, the court issued an order demanding that Israel “stop its military operations in Rafah, maintain the opening of the Rafah crossing to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, and submit a report to the court within a month on the steps it will take.”

Albanese added: “The news reaching me from the people trapped in the city of Rafah is horrific. Israel will not stop this madness, we will stop it.”

It called on the member states of the United Nations to impose sanctions on Israel, ban the provision of weapons to it, and suspend political and diplomatic relations with it until it “stops its attack.”

The war on Gaza left more than 116,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly.

Israel continues the war despite the International Criminal Court’s intention to issue arrest warrants against its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and its Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, for their responsibility for “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity,” and despite the issuance of a resolution by the UN Security Council to immediately stop the fighting.
