A major Israeli attack on Egypt

In a move that ignited diplomatic tensions between Egypt and Israel, Cairo announced its support for South Africa's lawsuit against Israel before the International Court of Justice, which accuses it of committing genocide in Gaza.

Egypt's decision to support South Africa's demands raised eyebrows in Israel, where an Israeli diplomatic source described it to i24NEWS as a "betrayal," according to what he said.

The source told "i24NEWS": "After everything we did to them in Sinai, Netanyahu completely violated the annex of the peace agreement and in return they stab us in the back," as he put it.

According to what the Hebrew Channel reported, the dispute stems from Israeli military operations along the border between Egypt and Gaza, with Cairo expressing its concern that these actions may jeopardize the peace treaty between the two countries.

Egypt has repeatedly warned Israel of the repercussions of its military presence in the Sinai Peninsula.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry defended its decision, citing Israel's aggression against Palestinian civilians in Gaza as a reason for its support of the lawsuit filed by South Africa.

The ministry's statement highlighted "systematic Israeli practices" against the Palestinian people, including targeting civilians and destroying infrastructure in the Strip.

Moreover, Egypt took measures in response to the Israeli operations in Rafah, such as closing the Rafah crossing and refusing to coordinate with Tel Aviv regarding the entry of aid from the Rafah crossing into the Gaza Strip.

"I24" saw that Egypt's alignment with the legal challenge facing South Africa highlights a shift in diplomatic dynamics, as Cairo now stands against Israel on the international stage.
