A British nurse has lost an appeal against her conviction for killing seven newborns and attempting to kill six others.

Lucy Letby, 34, asked for leave to appeal after being found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment last year. A three-judge panel at the British Court of Appeal considered the case last April and issued its decision on Friday.

Judge Victoria Sharp said: “After hearing her application, we have decided to refuse leave to appeal and to dismiss all associated applications. A full judgment will be delivered in due course.”

A jury at Manchester Crown Court found her guilty of the crimes, which occurred between June 2015 and June 2016 in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital, northwest England.

Most defendants in British court cases do not have an automatic right of appeal; they must obtain leave to appeal on narrowly defined legal issues.
