With a value of $12 million South Korea intends to provide humanitarian aid to Sudan

Seoul announced its intention to provide humanitarian aid worth $12 million to Sudan and neighboring countries, as part of international efforts to support countries in the region.

The ministry added in a press statement: “Our government will continue to join international efforts to assist countries suffering from the ongoing humanitarian crisis as a responsible member of the international community and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2024-2025.”

South Korean Ambassador to France, Choi Jae-chul, announced the plan on Monday (local time) during an international humanitarian conference in Paris, where he expressed "concerns about the deteriorating situation in Khartoum."

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimated that "about 8.6 million people have been displaced inside and outside Sudan due to the current fighting."

The International Humanitarian Conference for Sudan and Neighboring Countries, organized by France, Germany and the European Union, brought together ministers and representatives of 58 countries to call on the warring parties to end hostilities, a year after the outbreak of the Sudanese conflict.

The war broke out in Sudan on April 15, 2023 , between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, and the United Nations said that “about 25 million people, or half of Sudan’s population, need aid, and that about 8 million people have fled their homes.”
