Dr. Daniel Kelly, from Sheffield Hallam University, explained that there is “evidence” to support this theory, including a Harvard study that found that men who masturbated 21 times a month were less likely to develop prostate cancer by a third. .
In The Conversation article, Kelly wrote: "Masturbation won't cause any harm. So it should form part of a healthy man's lifestyle."
He added: "The research results fit with the idea that masturbation can reduce prostate cancer by reducing the concentration of toxins and crystal-like structures that can accumulate in the prostate, possibly causing tumors."
Kelly continued: “Masturbation may alter the immune response within the prostate, which reduces inflammation, which is a known risk factor for the development of cancer, or increases immune defense against cancer cells. By reducing psychological stress, masturbation may reduce the activity of the nervous system, which inhibits some prostate cells.” “They divide very quickly and increase the chance of them turning into cancer cells.”
Last January, an analysis of 11 studies published in the past three decades found that 7 of them reported some beneficial effects of masturbation on the risk of prostate cancer.
“The emerging relationship between masturbation frequency and prostate health underscores the importance of incorporating sexual behavior into patient counseling and health care strategies,” the scientists wrote in the journal Clinical Genitourinary Cancer.
Kelly explained: “There are benefits to sexual activity and masturbation that go beyond the prostate, including positive effects on the heart, brain, immune system, sleep and mood. So, while the relationship between masturbation frequency and prostate cancer is not fully understood, and there is a real need for more research, masturbation “(Within reason) it will certainly cause no harm, and may even be beneficial, and should therefore form part of a healthy man's lifestyle.”
Experts agree that early detection of prostate cancer is key to enhancing survival rates.
