Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Monday that bilateral agreements are expected to be concluded between the Kingdom and the United States in the near future.
This came in response to a question about the negotiations between the two countries related to concluding a joint security agreement, during a session held within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh.
Bin Farhan added: “Most of the work has already been accomplished, and we have the broad outlines of what we believe should happen on the Palestinian front.”
Prince Faisal met with his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, on the sidelines of the joint meeting between the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries with the United States.
According to what was reported by the Saudi News Agency "SPA", during the meeting, the two sides reviewed ways to enhance bilateral relations and joint cooperation in various fields, and discussed developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip and the city of Rafah, and the importance of an immediate ceasefire, in addition to discussing making all efforts to ensure the entry of urgent humanitarian aid. Bin Farhan stressed the need to find quick solutions to the hostage negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, and said: “We support the release of all hostages, but it is absolutely necessary that any ceasefire be permanent and not temporary.”
He referred to the rights of the Palestinian people and their aspirations for self-determination, which must be achieved, and said: “By achieving this, we can ensure that the struggle that has continued for many decades will end and will provide many opportunities,” stressing that the economic opportunities and development opportunities provided by peace, security and cooperation are enormous. .
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said during his participation in the World Economic Forum in Riyadh on Monday that the United States of America is close to finalizing a security agreement with Saudi Arabia.
Blinken added, in statements during the meeting: “I believe that the work that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States are doing together regarding our agreements may be very close to completion.”
Blinken explained that the United States will hold talks in the coming weeks with the six GCC countries about integrating air and missile defense and enhancing maritime security.
He said that the region has a choice about its future, including “a future full of divisions, destruction, violence, and permanent instability,” adding that the Gulf states “chose, through their meeting with the United States, greater integration and greater peace.”
He told the Gulf states that he would push for the establishment of a Palestinian state and increased humanitarian access to Gaza, concluding that “the most effective way to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, alleviate suffering, and create space for a more just and sustainable solution, is to reach a ceasefire and return the hostages to their homes.” ".
