On Saturday, the Mufti of Oman, Ahmed bin Hamad Al-Khalili, praised the “uprising” of students in America and Europe in support of the people of the Gaza Strip who have been facing an Israeli war since last October 7.
This came according to a post by the Mufti of Oman, through his verified account on the “X” platform, amid continuing student protests at several American and European universities.
The Mufti of Oman said: “We salute the uprising of students and teachers in American and European universities in denunciation of the genocide practiced by the occupation authorities in the Gaza Strip.”
Al-Khalili added: “We hope that (this uprising) will spread to all universities. This is an example for those who favor the policy of subservience and rush to normalize relations with the occupying enemy,” in reference to Israel.
On April 18, pro-Palestinian students at Columbia University in the United States began a sit-in in the campus garden to protest the university’s continued financial investments in companies that support the occupation of Palestine and “genocide” in Gaza. 108 students were arrested during the demonstrations.
The demonstrations also spread to other leading universities in the United States, such as New York University, Yale University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of North Carolina.
