The Guardian: The United Kingdom is in poor health and fatal infections will rise by 50%

The United Kingdom has recorded a significant increase in stroke cases, and it is expected that the annual rate of admission to hospitals due to these strokes will reach 151,000 cases, with a financial cost in the billions.

New forecasts in the country indicate that it will cost the NHS and the economy £75 billion to deal with these cases, which will increase by 50% by 2035.

The statistics indicated that deteriorating physical health, high rates of alcohol consumption and low levels of exercise among the elderly population, as well as the failure of ministers and health services to do more to prevent ill health, are responsible for the expected rise in strokes .

In turn, Juliet Boveri, chief executive of the Stroke Association, which released the new analysis, warned that without urgent action, the huge impact on the NHS and the economy would be “unsustainable” within a decade.

She said a combination of lifestyle factors will lead to the expected rise in strokes over the next decade, in addition to an aging population and inadequate preventive measures.

Boveri added to The Guardian : “The United Kingdom is becoming less healthy.” “People are spending more of their lives in poor health and we can see that lifestyle factors such as harmful drinking have increased.”

Boveri explained that the biggest risk factor for stroke remains high blood pressure, but the condition remains undiagnosed.
