The best anti-inflammatory foods

Health experts have revealed the best foods to eat in order to try to reduce the risk of chronic diseases and infections.

Harvard School of Public Health experts said that healthy foods, including nuts and fruits, are rich in anti-inflammatory properties.

“Many major diseases, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and depression, have been linked to chronic inflammation,” said Howard E. Lewin, professor of nutrition and epidemiology.

"Choose the right anti-inflammatory foods, and you may be able to reduce your risk of developing the disease," said Dr. Frank Ho, a nutrition expert. "Consistently choose the wrong foods, and you can speed up the inflammatory disease process."

Here are 6 major foods with anti-inflammatory and chronic disease properties:

- tomatoes.

- olive oil.

- Green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, kale, and cabbage.

- Nuts, such as almonds and walnuts.

- Fatty fish, such as salmon, mackerel, tuna and sardines.

- Fruits, such as strawberries, raspberries, cherries and oranges.

Experts said that tomatoes get their bright red color from the antioxidant lycopene, which has the ability to fight prostate cancer, according to studies.

Blueberries are also considered one of the most powerful sources of antioxidants, and contain a cancer-fighting chemical called "anthocyanosides."
