The representative of the World Health Organization in Egypt, Nima Abdel, said that noncommunicable diseases cause about 84% of deaths in Egypt.
He added: “The health of individuals does not depend only on a set of interconnected biological factors that include the physical, mental and psychological dimensions, but rather it extends beyond that as it is strongly influenced by environmental, behavioral, social and economic determinants. The World Health Organization is committed to supporting governments in preparing Climate for a healthy environment and work to reduce exposure to risk factors that lead to non-communicable diseases and injuries.
The Egyptian Food Bank will provide healthy foods, taking into account food safety standards, operate the school cafeteria, and provide interactive activities to promote health messages in a simple and attractive way in the selected schools, within the bank’s “school feeding” program, which is one of the most important programs in the axis of preventing the spread of malnutrition among Newborns and adult children up to 12 years of age by shifting from remedial policies to precautionary activities aimed at reducing the likelihood of food insecurity.
For his part, Mohsen Sarhan, CEO of the Egyptian Food Bank, said that the bank was keen to participate in the “Partnership for Healthy Cities” initiative in cooperation with official bodies and local and international organizations, to match its strategic objectives with the Food Bank’s “school feeding” program, which aims to provide Healthy and safe school meals for children, which contributes to meeting the basic nutritional needs of young people and reducing malnutrition, helps them grow better and develop healthy habits in the long term, and is reflected in their academic excellence in addition to gaining life skills.
The WHO's focus on reducing noncommunicable diseases in Egypt, alongside the Egyptian Food Bank's "school feeding" program, represents a crucial effort to combat malnutrition and promote long-term health through education, healthy eating, and supportive partnerships.
