Norway is in the process of recognizing the State of Palestine

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide revealed that his country may announce its recognition of the State of Palestine this spring.

In an interview with a local television channel, the Foreign Minister responded to a question about when Norway would recognize the State of Palestine, explaining that Norway is working on this issue in cooperation “with other countries.”

He added: "If people want to reach the principle of a two-state solution for two peoples , it is clear that this requires the existence of two states. One is called Palestine and the other is Israel."

The minister added: "It is impossible to achieve this principle without joint negotiations between them."

It is noteworthy that Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Storhe confirmed during a press conference with his Spanish counterpart that Oslo is ready to officially recognize the State of Palestine at the same time as Madrid.

Also earlier, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry stated in a press statement that Minister Bart Eide called on countries that suspended their contributions to UNRWA to resume funding amid a report on the freezing of their contributions issued by a United Nations committee that was investigating the agency’s activities.

He also stressed that Norway is committed to UNRWA and that the presence of this agency is crucial to the efforts of other humanitarian organizations in Gaza.
