Iran proposes forming an international coalition against discrimination in science

Iran proposed forming a coalition of friendly countries against discrimination in the field of science by the West.

Director of the National Institute for Research in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of the Iranian Republic, Javad Mohammadi, noted that thanks to the establishment of such a coalition, “it will be easier to control the emergence of new threats to human health, as well as the risks of epidemics.”

The director of the Iranian National Institute, Javad Mohammadi, proposed establishing a coalition of friendly countries to confront the discrimination practiced by the West in the scientific field. This proposal was presented in Tehran during a meeting held with the President of the Russian University of Science and Technology, Vadim Zakharov.

IRNA quoted Jawad Mohammadi as saying: “In the contemporary world, we face the phenomenon of racial discrimination in the field of science practiced by Western countries, and in order to confront and overcome this discrimination, we must form a coalition with the universities of friendly countries and neighboring countries in the scientific field.”

Mohammadi added that his institute is interested in cooperating with the Ufa University of Science and Technology “in various fields of science, research and technology” and conducting academic exchange.

Viktor Sadovnichy, President of Moscow State University and Chairman of the Union of Russian Deans, announced on April 17 that the Union plans to form alliances between universities in BRICS countries and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. As for Iran, it is a full member of both of these international organizations.

In November 2023, Iranian Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology Peyman Salehi called for expanding Russian-Iranian scientific cooperation in the field of high-tech products, and indicated that the Iranian side is open to cooperation.
