Many school and university students suffer from anxiety and psychological stress as the exam period approaches. What methods should be followed to reduce the symptoms, if any?
Regarding the topic, the Russian doctor and scientist in the field of clinical psychology, Sergei Maritonov, said: “In the month of May in Russia, for example, the school education period ends, and the date of government exams for students in the middle and high school diplomas approaches, and many students during this period show symptoms of anxiety.” And stress and psychological and physical exhaustion, and they may be exposed to what is called borderline personality disorder, or (BPD).”
He added: “Studies were conducted in Russia that included 4,300 people, 63% of whom were teenagers, and it was found that 20% of the teenagers included in the studies suffer from symptoms of BPD, and only 8% of adults suffer from symptoms of this disorder... with increased mental pressure and tension in the system.” Nervous during preparation for exams, adolescents may show symptoms of borderline personality disorder, and in this case they must be provided with psychological support, and consult a psychotherapist who specializes in adolescent psychology. Often, when an accurate diagnosis of borderline personality disorder is made, specialists prescribe drug treatment.
Maritonov pointed out that the latest medical research has shown that omega-3 supplements and polyunsaturated fatty acids improve cognitive function during periods of mental stress and reduce symptoms of anxiety. It is also important for those suffering from BPD symptoms to receive psychological support from family and people close to them.
