She said: “At 5:03 Moscow time on March 27, an earthquake measuring 4.7 occurred off the coast of the Kuril Islands.” Noting that the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of 40 kilometers and 187 kilometers southeast of Simoshir Island.
Before that, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) announced that a stronger earthquake had occurred off the coast of Fiji, with a magnitude of 6.7. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 18 km and was located 588 km southwest of the city of Suva, where more than 77 thousand people live. No damages or casualties were announced. The possibility of a tsunami was also not announced.
The European Mediterranean Seismological Center indicates that another earthquake occurred on March 27 off the coast of the island of Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean, with a magnitude of 6.7 and its epicenter at a depth of 18 km and 496 km from the city of Esangel, which is inhabited by 1.4 thousand people. There was no information about the occurrence of a tsunami or any casualties.
It is noteworthy that an earthquake measuring 5.7 occurred on March 24 off the coast of Indonesia, and on the 25th of that year, an earthquake measuring 5.7 occurred in Kamchatka.
