Death saddens mixed martial arts champion Francis Ngannou

Former Cameroonian-French mixed martial arts champion Francis Ngannou announced the death of his 15-month-old child, Kobe.

Late Monday evening, Ngannou posted on his account on the “X” platform: “It was early, but he was gone. My little boy, my friend Kobe, was full of life and joy. But now he lies lifeless. I called his name, but he did not answer me.”

He continued, "Life is not fair because it hits us where the pain is greatest."

Ngannou also posted on his account before his child’s death was officially announced: “What is the meaning of life if everything we struggle to get away from with all our might is what ultimately shocked us the most?”

He added, "Why is life so unfair and merciless?"

Reactions to Kobe's death continued, and martial arts celebrities offered their condolences to Ngannou, and his UFC colleague Conor McGregor wrote on his "X" account: "I am very sorry to hear of your loss, Francis. My prayers are with you and your family at this time."

"Please be respectful of Francis Ngannou and his family during this painful time. I, along with millions of others, will pray that they stay strong," Ngannou's manager, Markelle Martin, posted.

As for veteran ring broadcaster Michael Buffer, he wrote on social media, “The entire sports world and beyond stands devastated and strongly supports Francis at this time. Please know that millions of us are holding little Kobe in our prayers.”
