British authorities announced on Monday that two men have been charged with "spying" for China under the Official Secrets Act.
Christopher Perry, 32, from Witney, Oxfordshire, and Christopher Cash, 29, from Whitechapel, London, were charged with providing harmful information to a foreign country. They have been released on bail to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday 26 April.
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Counter Terrorism Command, said: “This has been a very complex investigation into very serious allegations,” noting that “we have worked closely with the Public Prosecution Service as our investigations have progressed and this has led to the charges of the two men today.”
He added: "We realize that there is a degree of public and media interest in this case, but we ask everyone to refrain from any further comment or speculation, so that the criminal justice process can now run its course."
This is a significant development in national security. The authorities' cautious approach underscores the seriousness of the allegations. It's crucial that due process is respected to ensure a fair outcome for all involved.
