The Chamber of Pharmacists in the German state of Hessen said that it is best to take iron tablets with orange juice because it contains vitamin C , which helps the body absorb iron better.
Conversely, iron tablets should not be taken with cola, tea, coffee, milk or mineral water, since these drinks limit the body's ability to absorb iron.
For the same reason, iron tablets should also not be taken while eating a meal, as they should be taken about half an hour to an hour before a meal or two hours after a meal.
Who needs iron tablets?
On the other hand, the Chamber indicated that tablets are used when the iron deficiency in the body is severe and cannot be compensated for by eating iron-rich foods, such as red meat, green vegetables, and legumes.
The chamber explained that the symptoms indicating iron deficiency in the body are constant fatigue, poor concentration, hair loss, cracked corners of the mouth, and burning of the tongue, noting that the people most vulnerable to iron deficiency are women in general, and pregnant women, athletes, and dialysis patients in particular, knowing that Iron deficiency in the body can be verified through a blood test.
