Magen David Adom (MDA) has warned that it is facing a major shortage of all blood types throughout Israel.
This decrease in blood supply poses a challenge to Magen David Adom because it uses this blood to treat the sick and wounded, which may cause difficulties in providing doses to hospitals and the Israeli army.
Magen David Adom said in its warning: “There is no substitute for blood. Every dose of blood can help save the lives of three sick or injured people who need blood transfusions,” calling on the public to “donate blood and save lives.”
The Jerusalem Post reported that Magen David Adom does not receive a government budget, which poses a challenge given the recent decline in blood donations.
Last February, Haaretz newspaper quoted the Israeli Ministry of Defense as saying that the Medical Rehabilitation Department had treated more than 5,500 wounded since the beginning of the war on the Gaza Strip, expecting that the number of soldiers with disabilities would reach 12,500 soldiers.
Israeli Army Radio reported that the Rehabilitation Department of the Ministry of Defense is preparing to receive 20,000 wounded this year, compared to 5,500 wounded received last year since the start of the war.
The above mentioned situation is a matter of concern.
