Venezuelan Socialist Party: President Maduro will run in the next presidential elections in July

On Saturday, Venezuela's ruling Socialist Party elected current President Nicolas Maduro as its candidate for the presidential elections that will be held in the country on July 28, 2024.

Vice President Deodado Cabello announced the candidacy of Maduro, a 61-year-old former union leader, in the elections for the Socialist Party.

According to Venezolana de Televisión, the candidacy of the President of Venezuela and the head of the Venezuelan People's Party, Maduro, was supported at previous meetings of the party's primary organizations, community councils and public organizations by more than 4 million Venezuelans.

“I am here with the people, and that is why today I accept [the offer to run] for the presidential elections on July 28. In 2024, we will achieve victory again on the path of truth, hope and patriotism,” Maduro said.

Maduro is running for a third presidential term. It is noteworthy that the Venezuelan Constitution does not specify the number of times the President of the Republic will be re-elected and other elective positions, and the duration of the presidential term is 6 years.

The Venezuelan National Electoral Council will register candidates to participate in the presidential elections of the Republic from March 21 to 25, and the electoral campaign will take place from July 4 to 25.
