Former US President Donald Trump on Sunday described Vladimir Zelensky as the best salesman in history, noting that every time he comes to the United States he leaves carrying 50 or 60 billion dollars.
Commenting on US lawmakers' requests to give Ukraine more money, he said: "They say: They will return the money to us. Give them and lend them the money. Lend them the money. Do not write a check for 60 billion."
Trump added: "I'm telling you, Zelensky is one of the best sellers in history. Every time he comes to the country, he leaves with 50 or 60 billion dollars. I've never been able to do that. He's the best seller. Better than many."
Last Thursday, former US President Donald Trump said that European countries should allocate money to help Ukraine on an equal basis with the United States.
Before that, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who met with Trump on March 8 at his home in Florida, said that if Trump wins, he will not fund the arming of Ukraine and will not spend on European security.
The former US President previously stressed that the United States should not defend NATO countries that do not pay their dues to the alliance, and Trump made a similar statement last month during an election rally, where he said that he would encourage Russia to do “whatever the hell it wants” to any party. A NATO member state “does not pay enough to the alliance’s budget.”
In response, current US President Joe Biden accused his predecessor Trump of "subservience" to the Russian president, claiming that he told Russian President Vladimir Putin to "do whatever you want with NATO countries."
Biden called on Congress to continue providing assistance to Ukraine, warning that freedom and democracy were under attack "at home and abroad."
