Former US President Donald Trump called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war on the Gaza Strip, stressing the "need for peace."
In response to a question about what he would tell Netanyahu about the war in Gaza, Trump said in an interview with Fox News: “You have to finish it and do it quickly and return to the world of peace. We need peace in the world. We need peace in the Middle East.”
He believed that Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's criticism of Israel was motivated by domestic politics, considering that the latter is looking at where he can get more votes, adding: "I think he sees the Palestinians and sees the marches, you know, they are big, and he says: I want to "I'm moving in this direction instead of Israel."
Trump noted that Schumer "abandoned Israel ."
Trump pledged to restore peace in the Middle East after his victory in the upcoming presidential elections, saying: “I will do two things. I will work from day one, before officially taking office, to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine... and restore peace in the Middle East.”
It is noteworthy that this is the first time that Trump has called for an end to the war on Gaza. In the first days after the Hamas attack on October 7, the former president criticized Netanyahu for failing to prevent it.
Since the start of the war, Trump has said several times that he is disappointed in Netanyahu for not helping him in the mission that led to the assassination of Quds Force Commander Qassem Soleimani . He has expressed support for Israel in recent months, but has avoided publicly supporting Netanyahu.
