Former US President Donald Trump said, "Any Jew who votes for Democrats hates his religion and hates everything related to Israel, and he should be ashamed of himself."
These statements came in a podcast interview a day after Trump criticized Israel for trying to maintain relations with the Democratic Party, considering it "a very bad thing for Israel."
Trump was asked about Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's speech last week, in which the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in US history called for early Israeli elections to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“I actually think they hate Israel,” Trump said of Democrats, reiterating his belief that Schumer was a supporter of Israel and turned against it in pursuit of votes.
In his response to the interview, Schumer said that “turning Israel into a partisan issue only harms Israel and the American-Israeli relationship.”
He wrote on the “X” platform: “Trump is making extremely partisan and hateful statements. I am working in a bipartisan manner to ensure that the American-Israeli relationship continues for generations to come, supported by peace in the Middle East.”
The White House also criticized Trump, suggesting that his comments could fuel violence against Jews, who are already facing unprecedented levels of anti-Semitism in the United States since the October 7 attack.
White House spokesman Andrew Bates said: “President Joe Biden has taken a decisive call when it comes to despicable and disturbing anti-Semitic rhetoric,” adding: “With anti-Semitic crimes and acts of hate on the rise around the world, leaders have an obligation to call hate what it is and unite.” "Americans are against it. There is no justification for spreading toxic and false stereotypes that threaten citizens."
