An Argentine man was reported to have "accidentally" undergone a vasectomy instead of having his gallbladder removed last week.
Jorge Pace, 41 years old, was admitted to the Florencio Diaz Hospital in Cordoba to undergo a gallbladder operation last Tuesday, but the operation was delayed until the next day. When he regained consciousness after surgery, a nurse told him that the surgeons assumed he would have a vasectomy, because the hospital never performed gallbladder operations on Wednesdays.
Speaking to Argentinian channel El Doce TV, Pace said: “I feel very angry and helpless because what they did cannot be undone. Endless questions run through your head. I don’t understand how such negligence and such a big mistake could happen. It’s very strange because "The word 'gallbladder' is everywhere in my file. All they had to do was read it."
Pace added that he already had two sons, but wanted to have a daughter as well. However, doctors told him that the chances of a reversal were slim. He said: "They told me that because of my age and the size of the canal, the matter no longer made sense, and I had the only option to have another child, which was artificial insemination."
Pace had to stay in hospital and undergo another surgery to remove his gallbladder. The case is currently under investigation.
