The Myanmar Military Council has sent a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand stating that the two-day discussion on Myanmar issues, which will be held at the Thai Parliament starting on March 2, will harm bilateral relations.
This discussion will have a negative impact on the close relationship between Thailand and Myanmar, and the Thai parliament has been included in the objection letter of the military council to not take any activities that may hinder the friendship between the two countries.
This discussion, which includes those who oppose the Burmese military council, is led by Thai opposition members of parliament.
Rangsiman Rome, chairman of Thailand's National Security and Border Affairs Committee, said the talks pave the way for a peaceful and sustainable political solution for Myanmar, and that this is the first step for the parties involved to meet and discuss, according to Reuters.
The Thai Foreign Minister was scheduled to give a speech at the meeting, but the plan was eventually canceled, according to Reuters.
This discussion was attended online by Daw Zin Ma Aung, Foreign Minister of the National Unity Government NUG, and U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar's Ambassador to the United Nations. Representatives of the Karen National Union (KNU) and the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) were also present, as well as Myanmar activists.
At the meeting, three years after the coup d'état, Burma's democracy and the effect on Thai-Myanmar border security were discussed.
It's highlighting concerns over bilateral relations and border security impacts.
