The Saudi Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle more than one million amphetamine tablets through the Jeddah Islamic Port.
The official spokesman for the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, Major Marwan Al-Hazmi, stated that the security follow-up of drug smuggling and drug promotion networks targeting the security of the Kingdom and its youth resulted in thwarting an attempt to smuggle 1,298,886 amphetamine tablets inside a shipment of electric ovens through the Jeddah Islamic Port, in coordination with the Zakat and Tax Authority. Customs, and arrested those receiving it in the Riyadh region and Jeddah Governorate, who are a resident of Sudanese nationality and a Saudi citizen. The accused were arrested, initial legal measures were taken against them, and they were referred to the Public Prosecution.
It called on the security authorities to report all available information to citizens and residents about any activities related to drug smuggling or drug promotion, by calling the relevant numbers and via the relevant e-mail, stressing that all reports will be treated with complete confidentiality.
