The head of the Libyan government appointed by Parliament, Osama Hammad, called for an immediate ceasefire in the city of Zawiya, expressing his regret and concern over the armed clashes there.
Hammad said: “With regret and concern, we followed the armed clashes currently taking place between our brothers and our people in the city of Zawiya, in which heavy and medium weapons were used, leaving a number of dead and wounded.”
He added: "While we pray to God to spare the blood of Libyans from all parties, we call on everyone to immediately cease fire, give priority to the language of reason, and resort to the official state security and judicial agencies."
He also called on the tribes and elders to intervene quickly and seek calm between the two parties, in order to preserve lives and public and private property.
Our correspondent in Libya indicated that the security situation is now stable in the city of Zawiya, and the general scene is good after the clashes stopped.
He confirmed that the coastal road leading to the city of Zawiya was opened and secured by the 103rd Battalion of the West Coast Military District.
He continued: "Two dead and more than 5 wounded as a result of these clashes, and this statistic is not considered completely accurate because these groups are affiliated with certain parties that are reluctant to give all information."
The city of Zawiya in the far west of Libya witnessed clashes between armed groups yesterday, Saturday, which led to a number of deaths and injuries. This is not the first time that Zawiya has witnessed unrest and armed clashes, as a number of armed groups are deployed there.
