The Canadian National Party calls on the government to recognize the State of Palestine

The Canadian House of Representatives will vote on Monday on a proposal presented by the National Democratic Party demanding that the government recognize the State of Palestine.

The proposal also called on the government to call for an end to the “decades-long occupation of Palestinian territories,” demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages, an arms embargo against Israel, unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza, and the lifting of the “arbitrary ceiling” imposed on requests for aid. Obtaining a temporary residence visa provided by the government to residents of Gaza.

The House of Commons is scheduled to vote on the proposal Monday afternoon local time.

In contrast, the Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs launched a petition opposing this proposal, saying that it “threatens Canada’s values, foreign policy, and support for Israel, while giving Hamas what it wants: recognition and support.”

Liberal MP Anthony Housefather said: “The NDP presented a proposal that presents it as a call for a ceasefire, without demanding that Hamas surrender and stop ruling Gaza. It also calls for a series of other anti-Israel matters. Changing foreign policy to reward a terrorist attack... is not a move.” Smart".

The Liberals have held talks with the NDP about amending the motion, although it is not known what the contents of the amendment are.
