Syrian President Bashar al-Assad confirmed in an exclusive interview with the Russian "Soloviev" channel that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was more successful in the role of a comedian than in the role of "leader of the nation."
Al-Assad said jokingly in response to a question about whether the sanctions imposed by Zelensky had an effect on him: “They caused me a nervous disorder.”
The Syrian President added: "He is a comedian. This was his profession before the presidency. By the way, he was more successful in the role of a comedian, not the leader of the nation."
In March 2023, the Ukrainian president imposed sanctions against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad, and Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous.
On June 30, 2022, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the collapse of diplomatic relations with Syria without breaking consular relations in response to Damascus’ decision to recognize the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics.
