Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed on Saturday that the Sahara issue is “a just issue and the elimination of colonialism,” noting that “the application of reason in it instead of force and threat will guide its parties to a solution.”
Tebboune said in his regular meeting with the local Algerian media that the Sahara "is a just issue and is on the decolonization table at the United Nations. For us, it is a decolonization issue and we are not against our Moroccan brothers nor against any other party."
The Algerian president stressed that "Algeria will not kneel, and whoever wants to impose on us what he imposes elsewhere is mistaken. Algeria has provided millions of martyrs for the sake of sovereignty."
He added: "Whoever wants to provoke us will find us waiting, and the lesson is clear in the history of the country of martyrs."
Tebboune previously indicated that " Algeria will play its role in the Security Council for the benefit of the brothers and the Arab nation , and there is almost a consensus on Algeria to occupy a non-permanent position in the Security Council."
It should be noted that the Sahara file represents a point of deep disagreement between Algeria and Rabat for decades. Morocco proposes to grant it autonomy under its sovereignty, while the Polisario Front demands the organization of a referendum on self-determination.
